Capital Subaru - Brake Servicing
Dirt, heat, moisture, wear and tear are the cause of most brake problems. Capital Subaru's technicians will inspect your entire brake system and will show you what your brake problem is before repairing it with our quality parts and service.
Signs that your vehicle's brake system needs to be repaired
- - Vibration
- - Pulsating
- - Grabbing
- - Screeching
- - Responding unevenly to pressure
Your vehicle has a complex system of brake parts working in harmony together to give you all the stopping power you need. When you press the brake pedal, pressurized fluid activates the braking system.
With disc brakes, the brake fluid pressure forces the brake pads against the rotor to slow and stop the wheels. Drum brakes operate on the same basic principle. As the brake fluid pressure builds, it causes the brake shoes to press against the brake drum to slow and stop the wheels.
For your safety, we strongly recommend that your brakes be inspected periodically. This preventative maintenance can save you both time and money.
Brake FAQs
How long should my brake and rotor pads last?
They will wear down, but how quickly will depend on your driving style. If you are constantly stopping and going, the brakes will wear a lot quicker than someone who does mostly highway driving. Another factor is the weight of the car – heavier cars need more power to stop than lighter ones.
I haven't put that many KMs on my car since I last had my brakes done, and now they're squeaking. Why?
It’s impossible for us to diagnose without seeing it in this case, bring it to Capital Subaru and we’ll let you know.
Why is my car shaking when I brake?
There may be something wrong with your rotors, but we’d have to see it to find out for sure.
Do I have to change my brake fluid?
You don’t have to necessarily, but if there is a lot of copper in the fluid, this means that the additives in the brake fluid are breaking down and this can eventually cause damage to the Anti-Lock Brake System and you’d be looking at paying substantially more to fix this than to just change the fluid.
Why is my car pulling to the right or left when I brake?
You may have a problem with your hydraulic brakes, a mechanical problem, or a steering or chassis issue. We’d have to see it to find out for sure.
Why do I have to press my brakes harder than usual?
There could be a hydraulic or mechanical brake issue, you should bring your car in for service as soon as possible.
Why is my car making a grinding noise when I step on the brakes?
It’s likely the metal backing of a brake pad contacting the rotor because the brake pad material has been worn away. Anytime your brakes are consistently making noise, you should bring your vehicle in for service.
